Research

Dr. Panying Rong is an associate professor in the Department of Speech–Language–Hearing: Sciences and Disorders at the University of Kansas. Her expertise includes speech physiology, kinematics, acoustics, neuromotor speech disorders, and computational techniques. The overarching goal of her research is to develop a personalized medicine approach to enhance tailored clinical care of patients with progressive communication disorders. She leads numerous studies that integrate multimodal instrumental techniques with novel computational tools to improve objective assessment, early detection, progress monitoring, prognosis, phenotyping, and tailored intervention of progressive communication disorders secondary to neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease (PD). She has published across disciplines, including communication sciences and disorders, neurophysiology, and neurology.
